I've warranted a response!
well, i can honestly say that i wasn't trying to start any drama with my last post, which was put up on myspace just for the hell of it, i just wanted to make an observation, but it looks like it caught someone's attention...and boy does he sound upset. Date: Aug 30, 2008 12:42 AM Subject: Nice little blog Please do us both a favor and don't assume anything about a person you haven't had any contact with for about 2 years...it doesn't make you look very good. As for that 4th of July thing I honestly didn't see any of you there, glad you got a good laugh out of it. As for blowing off all my old friends you don't talk to Tom or Kat anymore which they were rather upset by, and from what I gathered from the last time I talked to Jaysin you don't talk to him either, so don't even start that shit. But yeah make all the assumptions about me you want...have fun, hope you get some real good kicks out of it. Take care, have a nice life, probably see you in hell... Nick looks like someone's keeping tabs on me. needless to say, i wasn't expecting that. all i replied with was "why are you reading my blog?" but just so all of you out there in TVland know, no, i don't talk to Tom or Kat anymore. no i haven't called them, but that is not to say i haven't tried contacting them in other ways. And they haven't called me either. I'd receive a call from either of them happily. Nick managed to call me on my birthday which was a month or so after everything happened, but neither Kat, Tom or Jason (Nick told me once he hates it when it's spelled Jaysin, however, observe above) managed to get even a myspace message in. none of them called me. ever. got an invite to the new years party, which i went to. didn't get invited the next year. i don't have any of Jason's contact info, for the record. i already asked Ryan about that, Jason doesn't have a phone at the moment. not one of his own. i've managed to stay in contact with Ryan and Artie, but most of the others I've chosen not to keep contact with because of the Ray situation and/or mutual falling away. Adnan, Clown an myself have a mutual loathing now. Josh, Ken, etc... never bothered calling or the like. And i did contact Jason via AIM a few months ago just to talk. apparently there was or is some misunderstanding between Jason and I. I would also welcome a call from Jason, he has my number and he knows how to get ahold of Ryan who knows how to get ahold of me. on a related side note, all of these people were his friends before we began and ended our relationship, not mine. they became my friends through association and shared interests. So there really isn't much of a point making any sort of comparison between him eradicating the connections with his "good" friends that became associated with myself, and me not calling his friends because they don't call me. I know for a fact that both Jason and Ryan have repeatedly tried to contact him, and I'm sure others have as well. I pointed something out to Ryan last week. After he told me that Nick never calls him back, I turned to him and said, "yeah, and think about when you did see nick. wasn't it usually when i was around? to prod him into calling you?" Which tended to be the case with the rest of his friends as well. anyway, i've strayed a little. The point is, you don't see me blowing off my old friends, i still talk to Krysta, Holly, Rachel, Derrick, Matt, etc...not that they have much association with nick. However, i do still see the ones associated with him like Ryan and I've talked to Artie on the phone many times. Hell, i'm even dating the one that had the strongest association with nick, but that connection has been broken and replaced with much better ones now. well, now i can probably expect to receive some sort of scathing message from the girl. honestly people, can't you tell when a post is just a post, not a personal attack? I'll give him one thing, he managed to spell everything right in his message, and it's short and to the point. he's learned from someone or somewhere in the past 2 years. one more thing, I liked the last little bit about seeing me in hell. it was clever, yet confusing if you ponder upon it, because not only does it imply that i'll be in hell because i'm a terrible horrible person for posting a not so sterling observation that concerned someone from my past, but it also implies that he will be joining me in hell. I wonder, and this makes me feel very Hannibal Lecter, what sins has he committed that lead him to think he'll be headed straight to hell once his flame is extinguished? Or was is merely a snide comment slipped in at the end of an outraged response without much forethought? For, when a character on the silver screen makes this remark, it usually means that character thinks so little of himself, of his morality and values, and looks back in regret on his actions, that he puts himself down at the same level as his foe and acknowledges that he too, is scum and is ready to admit it. perhaps if there is a god, i will see him in hell, but at least we'll be in separate circles. Then we'll see who is the Devil's favorite. MK Current Mood: thoughtful | | Thursday, August 28th, 2008 | | 12:05 am |
little big town
well, i guess Glen Ellyn and the surrounding areas don't exactly qualify as big towns, but you get the picture. I keep running into people i know at work, people from past jobs, people my brother knows, etc...just makes me think it's time to get the hell out. This observation was brought on by the fact that i keep seeing my ex around town. mr. nicholas thierry kleemann and his little gal pal. it's amazing, after months of no trace of him whatsoever, he seems to be everywhere now. just saw him dropping her off today at the Homegoods in Danada Square West, led me to think maybe she works there. and if she still works at Spencers, that godforsaken place, then that means we're work neighbors at both jobs we hold. amazing. i waved to him, but he was pulling away, didn't see me. but i'm pretty sure they did see Raymond, myself and our friend Ryan at that McDonald's in Villa Park/Lombard on the 4th of July. we sure as hell saw them. saw them pull in, sit in the parking lot for a while, saw them pull out and drive away, then make another round of the lot about 10 minutes later. odd how far some people will go to avoid confrontation. cracked us the hell up. then there was the time at the beginning of the summer when we saw him pull into the white hen on roosevelt rd. right down the way from his place, if he's even still there. I missed it but Ray didn't and when i turned back to look, i didn't have to even see his face, i knew from that lumbering swagger and the hunch of his shoulders it was him. you don't spend 3 1/2 years with someone and not pick up on their body language. crazy man, crazy. thought about sending him a myspace message telling him to say hello next time, lol, but then i thought, if they want to be left in peace, might as well let them. Not like they're the type of people i'd want to associate myself with anyway, but it's still a little odd for me when i think about the fact that somebody else is living my old life. Playing with Darcy and Reno, the two dogs, probably sleeping under the blanket i made for him, makes me wonder if she knows that she's doing all the things i used to do. If he even mentions those kinds of things at all, odds are he's probably blocked everything that happened between us out of his mind. i'm sure the daily alcohol and weed help a lot with that. he's already forgotten all of his old friends, like he had to just wipe out anything that had to do with me whatsoever. makes me feel kind of special that he'd go to all that trouble, shiftless and motivationless as he is. anywho, i suppose that last bit was cathartic in a way for me. That's all the time i have to spend on that tonight. As for me, I've moved on to bigger and better things, etc, etc...talk to you soon. Soul Ska and Mr. Makeout
so, i went to see Deal's Gone Bad tonight in Chicago with my cousin Nora. not a terrible night, but not the best night either. i ended up sailing through the drive, no traffic and parked a block away. off to a great start. get a drink, find her with her husband and all her friends, cool. but i'm terribly out of place, not only am i the youngest one there by at least 6 years, it's not my crowd of people. she eventually catches on to the fact that i know no one and am trying to butt in on any conversation i can relate to and comes over to talk to me for a bit, but we run out of things to talk about. this is what normally happens when i get together with any of my relatives. we're all very close knit nuclear pods, but together i feel alienated from them all. perhaps it's because my pod is the youngest group, but i feel perpetually like i'm 5 and am hovering around the big kids trying to get their attention. maybe i should take Mairghread's advice and work an invisibility spell before i go to family get togethers. anywho, she was mostly preoccupied with her hubby, who is pretty cool as well. finally the band goes on. the room is incredibly tiny, the music is mediocre, i've never heard the band before, the temperature is about 115 and finally it's over, one more song to go and this guy next to me tries to dance with one of Nora's friends and she just looks at him half smiles and goes back to watching the band. so i tell him "it was worth a shot" and he says "Yeah. I just wanna dance with somebody. Would you dance with me?" so of course being the nice girl i am but mostly bored anyway, i dance with him. some sort of weird ska-swing-spinning hybrid type of dance off beat because he had to have been pretty drunk or very white. so we dance to one song, it's mildly amusing and at the end he goes in for the kiss on the cheek. i think "oh, that's kind of sweet" so i oblige and then he does what every drunk guy is bound by nature to do, he goes in for the makeout kiss. turns his head and just plants one on my mouth, tongue all gross and i clamp my mouth shut and push him away. I say "no, i'm spoken for" to which he replies "So am I" and before i can even blink he's on me again. and i smile and push him off. a few moments later he says "it's alright as long as they don't find out, right?" and i know he's gotta be drunk because he's not being sleazy, but totally earnest about it. i look at him sideways and scoot away a bit thanking god the band is done. but oh, not yet, they still have the encore, two more songs. the guy says to me "you're my dance partner for the night right?" and i say "sure, but only dancing" so, only because i know he won't piss off until either the band leaves or i kick him in the balls, i dance with him for one more song, well, not so much dance with as dance next to him. and then, miracle of miracles, he manages to convince some other girl behind me to dance and i scoot up by my cousin, who laughs and says "you've got a new best friend." not such a great night. and by the time it's over it's too late to go to Ray's and shake it off and end the night with a kiss from the man i do love, so i drive home and as i'm going 50 and trying to figure out if this one restaurant is still open at 1AM, some kid crossing the street at that exact moment shouts into the window of my car, perfect timing, and scares the crap out of me. made me sorry i missed hitting him. but hey, at least my van is back after a month at the dealership. despite the fact that they left me with not even enough gas to get home and had it sitting in the parking lot with the window open and the key in the ignition. something tells me they never want to see that van again. now maybe we can sell it and get me a car that works. apparently music either needs to have a stand up bass or a synthesizer for me to be interested in it these days. the revolution has begun!
So, I found this myspace profile yesterday for a puppet show on MTV ONE in the UK and it just made me think about the recent influx of puppet shows in the past 5 years or so. It began with Henson. And on the 6th day, Henson did make Sesame Street and The Muppet Show and yea, he saw that they were good. and then we flash forward quite a few years to what i believe started this most recent rash of puppet programs. Avenue Q. For those of you who don't know what Avenue Q is; it's the story of a puppet, young and fresh out of college, who moves to Avenue Q in Manhattan. Now, Avenues A, B, and C are on the very East side of Manhattan in what it known as Alphabet City when you get farther down. suffice it to say it's mostly hippies and hipsters. Anyway, he moves in, falls in love, meets a bunch of other puppets and they all work together to make some dreams come true. but the catch is, it's an adult puppet show complete with songs like "Everyone's A Little bit Racist," "The Internet is For Porn," and "You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want (When You're Making Love)." I haven't had the fortune to see it myself, but i've heard the songs and it's pretty freaking funny. So then after this, Brian Henson gets the brilliant idea to take puppets for adults to a new level and starts his own touring puppet improv show with puppeteers from his various shows on a tour around the country. It's called Puppet Up and is also freaking hilarious. But adults aren't the only ones who have new puppet shows to watch. In the kids arena, a show came out about a year or two ago called Mr. Meaty which is the story of two pretty freakish looking puppets who work in a fast food joint in the mall. i saw one episode of it, only about as funny as any other kids cartoon out there but i give it points for cleverness and cool puppets. they're made out of some sort of high density foam or something that is actually molded so you can see the wear and tear that they incur during the show such as the corners of the mouth. then, there is this awesome show on PBS called The World Tree. It's about a bunch of animals that live in or around this giant tree in the rainforest and they learn things about each other, basic educational kids stuff, but it's done in the same way that creepy Winnie the Pooh puppet show on Disney was some time ago. It's all green screened except for a few props and set pieces and there are as many as 4 or 5 puppeteers in green working the puppets so you get total movement for each character without sacrificing the set. but what makes it cool are the design of the puppets. off to work, more to come later... | | Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 | | 9:09 pm |
Ray quote of the day...
"I'd be pretty pissed if there was a zombie holocaust." While we're watching Dawn of the Dead on TV. Not, "I'd be so scared" or "You know what I'd do during a zombie holocaust..." No, he'd be mad because of the inconvenience a bunch of walking corpses would pose to his cushy, contemporary existence. this is why i love him. MK | | Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 | | 10:30 pm |
Wanderlust
this is the Bjork video i worked on in NYC for a month or so on and off. i did a lot of work on the Yaks, rough sculpting the foam for the Yak backs, attaching hair, some painting, not the really detailed stuff, but i can say i'll be on the credits somewhere, lol. take a look: http://www.encyclopediapictura.com/wanderlust/index.htmMK P.S. it's supposed to be in 3D, the premiere was in NYC about two weeks ago, this version just came out yesterday. and if you go here ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=nmaPLKerqOA ) you can see me in the "making of video" at about 1:07 working on the very right of the table in a blue tank top and hankie, it's sped up so you'll have to trust me on it, don't blink, or you'll miss it, lol. I was there for the taping they show I think. Man, that woman is a trooper, working in 90 degree heat in a warehouse dressed in felt with only two fans to cool her off. Enjoy! | | Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 | | 12:25 pm |
like hot butter on what?
-the popcorn! lol, so this is seriously one of my favorite bands ever. the last cd they put out was one of those rare cds where i loved every song on the disk. amazing shit from two mega acid rap stars. anywho, i'm talking about Gnarls Barkley of course, they've got a new cd coming out in like the next week i think. The single off the disk is called Run and the video has caused a bunch of problems with MTV because it could cause siezures. there's a test apparently, with how many flashes per second or something like that, and there's a black and white section of the video that i think is the problem. anywho, here's the link, you should all check it out. p.s. My man, my dog, Justin Timberlake is also in it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2GA3a15xF0cthe other Gnarls Barkley videos are also pretty badass. there's one called Gone Daddy Gone where the band is all bugs and they run around lugging all the equipment and amps and stuff with them. it's a cover of the Violent Femmes song i believe. so, i'm finally back in wheaton after my weekend in Atlanta, Ga at Dragoncon. for those of you who don't know, Dragoncon is a HUGE sci-fi/ fantasy convention with all sorts of other stuff thrown in. Ray and I went, primarily to see The Cruxshadows with their violinist Rachel for the last time, but there was a ton of other stuff to see and do as well. There was a concert every night except for Thurs. Friday was Bella Morte, Sat was The Last Dance (who i haven't seen in about four years because they're from California), and then Sun was The Cruxshadows. In addition to the sci-fi/fantasy stuff, there was a gothic track with a bunch of discussion panels. a musical mishaps panel with CXS, Bella Morte and TLD, visuals involved in the bands' shows and music, etc...Ray went to a few comic panels on how to pitch new comics and write for different genres. I did a double take when we walked through the artists' alley and saw David Mack, writer and artist for his Kabuki series, so i bought a print and he signed it. bought plenty of other swag as well, couple band t-shirts, cds, a few necklaces. the weekend was a series of ups and downs for both Ray and myself. the biggest problem we had was food. we were staying in a pretty swanky hotel in a ritzy part of Atlanta so the restaurants (scarce as they were) were on the expensive side. There was a food court, but not exactly the kind of stuff you want for 4 days in a row. we eventually gave up the last night and went without eating as nothing was open by the time the CXS show was over. then we took a trip to Waffle House, and it was everything i thought it would be. the south is just this tottaly different universe, a Waffle House every stop, Sonic every other stop, the accents, the weird looks, the weird looking people...all in all it was fun, probably won't go back next year just because of the amount of stress. I got a lot of good photos http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/Steveandghost/Dragoncon%202007/check them out. | | Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 | | 12:27 am |

by god, i've made it! I'm a star!
http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/prnn/3 90.htm Here's the article from nytheatre.com: Emily Otto · June 10, 2007 Here in New York, we've all seen our share of kooky performers in the subway and on the street. While we've come to expect all manner of singing, dancing, drumming, and sermonizing, some of the most captivating public performances consist of artists doing, well, nothing at all. John Del Signore's The Mercury Menifesto illuminates the world of stationary artists, also commonly known as living statues. Framed as a workshop seminar for wannabe Mercury Men, the production combines video footage and puppetry with dramatic re-enactments and improvisation to present a glimpse of life "inside the unitard." With tongue planted firmly in silver cheek, The Mercury Menifesto visually entertains while offering sharp, acidic commentary on the collision of art, commerce, and law enforcement in New York City. Clad and painted entirely in silver, Del Signore spent years performing as a Mercury Man in New York's subways. Standing motionless for hours at a time, he would only move to thank passersby who dropped money in his bucket. His unusual act attracted crowds of people, a fair amount of cash, and, inevitably, New York's Finest working hard to shut down his performance. The Mercury Menifesto uses the motivational seminar format to present sardonic sketches and scenarios examining the rewards and pitfalls of a career as a renegade street artist. Throughout the performance, Del Signore and his "seminar helper guy" co-star, Jeff Seal, coax the audience into manufactured excitement with flashing lights, applause cues, and silver coins tossed to participants who display sufficient enthusiasm. While presenting the philosophical components of being a successful stationary artist, they recount the tale of Del Signore's journey into the genre. The Mercury Men were born when Del Signore was fired from playing a wandering, candy-cane toting Santa at Saks Fifth Avenue shortly after an unfortunate drunken encounter with Rudy Giuliani. Inspired by a bum in the subway, Del Signore decided he could embark on a new career as a self-made man. The production recreates his early experiences in subway performance with the help of a half-dozen puppets, cleverly designed by Mary Kate Rix to represent the diversity of New York's subway riders. Del Signore repeatedly asserts his status as the original Mercury Man, despite the contrary claims of the nefarious Victor Wilde, Del Signore's former performing partner, who appears on video, "live via satellite from L.A.," in an attempt to destroy Del Signore's credibility. It soon becomes apparent that the men in unitards are less than unified in their desire to "stand for change." Del Signore's writing is clever and incisive, and his turns of phrase are frequently laugh-out-loud funny (I particularly enjoyed the idea of his Santa "proffering cane" to Giuliani). The physical performances are hilariously precise. Seal, in particular, embodies a mélange of bumbling characters with great aplomb. Occasionally, the actors stumble with some uninspired line readings, but oddly, the performance comes to life most vividly when things go a little awry. Both Seal, who is a trained clown, and Del Signore are adept improvisers, and when they are caught off-guard by an audience response or a technical glitch, they ride the wave of uncertainty with energy and skill. The performance begins and ends with a droll voiceover offering a meta-narrative commentary on the play, describing it as a "fatuous crowd-pleaser." While the device is amusing, and certainly appropriate for the stated intentions of the Pretentious Festival, it feels somewhat extraneous to the show itself. The self-mockery is fun, but even without it, The Mercury Manifesto presents barbed, witty insights about the struggle to make a living as an artist in our fair city. | | Sunday, July 1st, 2007 | | 12:14 pm |
